Notes

* According to a Dyer family cousin, most of the Dyers are buried in the Dyer Family Tomb in Metairie Cemetery.  I am still in the process of trying to locate it.  Will post a picture and location when I find it.

*  Obviously "Dyer" is not traditionally and Irish surname.  Although James Dyer immigrated from Ireland, his family ancestry probably lay in England.  The English ruled Ireland loosely for many years and this would explain many ancestral English families eventually settling in Ireland (for whatever reason) and staying there even after Irish Independence.  There are several books and articles relating to this subject.  If you're interested in the subject, a good place to start would be by reading A "Perverse and Ill-fated People" :  English Perceptions of the Irish, 1845 by Ed Lengel, University of VA.
